Squared up log
This white oak log is bigger than it looks. It died in the summer of 2004. I cut it down in the summer of 2005. The first major branch was more than 20 feet off the ground. The branch had 110 rings. I have read that white oak lumber shrinks 10% in the drying process. I beleive it . Even though we air dried boards for a month in an unheated garage, the ends of the boards cracked four inches in from the end. Some of the boards had tiny check marks throughout.
